The Sakura Collection

Section Title
A bridal and evening collection inspired by the Cherry Blossom “Sakura” and the Hanami festival celebrating this beautiful tree and the meaning behind it. Every year, around April, the Japanese hold festivals called “Hanami” celebrating the short time (2-3 weeks) when the Cherry Blossom is in bloom. This tradition involves families and friends coming together to gather under the flowering cherry blossoms and be reminded of how precious our lives really are.
The collection is also inspired by other Japanese references including the Samurai. Samurai were compared to cherry blossoms due to their short lives. Layers of soft tulle representing the fragile petals are mixed with crinoline and boning representing the strength of the tree itself which endures harsh winters year after year just to bloom for a couple of weeks each year. Pale pink silk petals embroidered on Italian silk tulle are used on the soft bridal gown. A vibrant cerise wool coat represents the colour of the cherry blossom bud with a Samurai inspired overcoat.
